Essay on PLE and pro bono: 'Going public'

Pro bono: Good enough ?
In November 2010, Jures, a legal research company produced ‘Pro Bono: Good enough?: The uneasy relationship between volunteer legal activity and access to justice’. Lisa Wintersteiger from Plenet contributed to the growing debate on the role of pro bono in this significant essay, ‘Going public’. Her essay concludes:

'Public legal education isn’t a panacea for all ills, but, in a world of increasing pace and complexity, it is a way for the profession to share a little of what it has been privileged to learn, and to build people’s capacity to exercise control over their own lives'.

The essay is one of a collection of contemporary legal essays on pro bono issues published in 'Pro Bono: Good enough ? The uneasy relationship between volunteer legal activity and access to justice'. The collection is second in the ‘Justice Gap’ series aimed at shining a light on different aspects of ‘access to justice’. It was produced by Jures, edited by Jon Robins and published for Solicitors Journal by Wilmington Group plc.
